Helping you understand your skin—one journal entry at a time.
Why Understanding Your Skin Is the First Step to Healthy Skin

Thoughtfully chosen. Beautifully balanced

If you've ever stood in the skincare aisle feeling completely overwhelmed, you're not alone.
Shelves are lined with beautiful bottles promising brighter skin, fewer wrinkles, smaller pores, firmer skin, and overnight results. Every package claims to be the answer, and every advertisement makes the next product sound like the one you've been missing.
It's no wonder so many people leave with more questions than answers.
The hardest part isn't finding skincare.
It's knowing what actually works.
Today's skincare market is filled with incredible marketing. Beautiful packaging, trendy buzzwords, celebrity endorsements, and social media can make it difficult to distinguish between ingredients backed by science and messages designed to sell another bottle.
At Skin Clinic DH in Sugar Hill, Georgia, my goal has never been to help people buy more skincare.
My goal has always been to help people understand their skin.
As a licensed esthetician and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), I've dedicated my career to understanding and caring for the largest organ of the human body—your skin. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, I've learned that healthy skin begins with understanding how it functions, not simply treating what we see on the surface.
Your skin is remarkable.
It protects you from the outside world, helps regulate body temperature, supports your immune system, allows you to experience touch, and serves as your body's first line of defense every single day.
Yet it's often the organ we understand the least.
Many people think of skincare as something purely cosmetic. While healthy skin is certainly beautiful, I've always believed that understanding how the skin functions is just as important as improving how it looks.
Your skin tells a story.
It can reflect inflammation, hormonal changes, environmental damage, nutritional deficiencies, stress, lifestyle habits, and the natural aging process. Learning to recognize those signals allows us to care for the skin with greater purpose—not simply cover concerns, but understand them.
After more than 25 years of treating skin, I've learned that two people can walk into my treatment room with what appears to be the same concern and leave with completely different treatment plans.
One person's acne may be influenced by hormones.
Another's may be driven by inflammation.
Someone else may have a weakened skin barrier from using products that simply weren't right for their skin.
The same is true for hyperpigmentation, redness, sensitivity, rosacea, acne scarring, and premature aging.
That's why I don't believe in one-size-fits-all skincare.
I believe in taking the time to understand what your skin is trying to tell us.
Looking Beyond the Surface
Beautiful skin isn't just about what we apply to our skin.
It's influenced by sleep, stress, nutrition, hormones, inflammation, the skin microbiome, sun exposure, genetics, and even the health of the gut.
When we understand those pieces, we stop chasing symptoms and begin addressing the reasons they developed in the first place.
That's where lasting improvement begins.
My Consultation Philosophy
Your first few visits aren't simply treatments.
They're the beginning of a relationship.
We spend time learning about your goals, your lifestyle, your current skincare routine, your budget, and the challenges you've experienced with your skin.
Together, we create a personalized skincare plan that fits your life—not someone else's.
Sometimes the best treatment isn't the newest treatment.
Sometimes it's repairing the skin barrier before introducing stronger ingredients.
Sometimes it's simplifying an overwhelming routine.
And sometimes it's realizing that the products you've faithfully been using were never designed to address your concerns in the first place.
My role isn't to sell you more products.
It's to help you understand your skin well enough to make confident, informed decisions about caring for it.
Science Before Trends
The skincare industry moves quickly.
Science moves carefully.
That's why you'll rarely hear me recommend something simply because it's popular.
I'd rather recommend products and treatments supported by clinical research, proven active ingredients, and years of experience than promise results that sound too good to be true.
Over the coming weeks in The Skin Health Journal, we'll explore topics like active ingredients versus cosmetic ingredients, how to read a skincare label, why your skin barrier matters, the connection between whole-body health and skin health, the skin microbiome, hyperpigmentation, acne, healthy aging, and how to build a skincare routine that truly works for your skin.
Because healthy skin isn't something we chase.
It's something we build.

Because when you understand your skin, you care for it differently.
